What is Inis Dom!?
Welcome to the enterprise 'Inis Dom!', in which special attention has been paid to the function and use of Irish in business in Ennis. The aim of this enterprise is to provide a central source of information for businesses that wish to benefit from the Irish language as a usable and effective business tool.
How will it help my business?
Foras na Gaeilge is currently developing a broad program of services and support through our special branding campaign 'Gnó means Business' in order to facilitate and increase the practical use of Irish within the business sector. 'Inis Dom!', as part of this major effort, will promote the use of Irish. We strongly believe that the Irish language can bring advantages to all types of businesses in different ways, whether you are fluent in Irish or not! There has already been a great boom in the practice of bilingualism in both the private and public business sector and, together with English, the unique characteristics of the Irish language are now being used by the Businesspeople very effectively as a marketing tool on signage, stationery, packaging and advertising.
Inis Dom?
Ennis has been recognized in recent years as a town where the use of Irish has developed and flourished. The town has won the main Glór na n'Gael award four times as well as the Tidy Towns le Gaeilge Award twice.
A strong Irish language environment
The promotion of the Irish language in Ennis is stronger now than it has ever been.
Under the direction of 'An Clár as Gaeilge Teo.', a series of events and opportunities have been organized since the beginning of the year, to promote the language, which have had a major public impact, and which have put Ennis at the forefront. Irish language development centres in the country.
Tell Me More...!
Q How can I get involved?
A First, a series of information evenings will be organized to inform the public and local businesses about the initiative and how it will work.
Q I don't speak much Irish, can I join in?
A You can. Support in the form of 'Ciorcal Comhrá' will be provided to cater for everyone, whether you are a beginner or a fluent Irish speaker. The times of these discussions will be flexible to accommodate the public and the business sector.
Q What other support system will be available?
A Through our partnership with Foras na Gaeilge, Conradh na Gaeilge and Glór na nGael we will be able to provide a series of supports:
- A comprehensive book of phrases to help do business in Irish.
- A range of interior stickers and signs for shoppers.
- A professional translation service available locally through An Clár as Gaeilge to assist with advertising, brochures and signage for local businesses.
- Advice and assistance on how to advertise your business or product through the medium of Irish.
- Find appropriate opportunities to advertise in Irish and help local businesses take advantage of them.
Q Inis Dom... what are the long-term benefits for the town of Ennis?
A 'Inis Dom!' will help cement the image of Innis as a centre of traditional Irish culture.
It will create a unique atmosphere in the town, making it an attractive shopping destination for visitors and locals alike.
Ennis, as a bilingual town, would make a natural choice as a venue for major international cultural festivals.
