Seachtain na Gaeilge was established back in 1903 by Conradh an Gaeilge to promote the use of Irish in everyday life.It was an extension of Lá Mór na Gaeilge which was based around Lá le Pádraig which was mainly aimed at schools and young people in general to encourage them to use Irish outside of school.
Since then, Seachtain na Gaeilge has developed and expanded and has expanded into the Féile Náisiúnta na Gaeilge with events that cater to all aspects of the community and all age groups. It is organized on a county basis and the coordination is done in each County by the branches of Conradh an Gaeilge, who organizes it on a National level.
With a range of events from simple Ciorcal Comhrá’s to street ceilidhs; speed match to wine tasting, it gives everyone the chance to try Irish, no matter if they are fluent or trying it for the first time.
Organisations, local councils, schools, librarians, sports, music and cultural groups register their Irish language events with us.
In County Clare, a Register of Events is published in collaboration with the Irish Office in Clare County Council which covers all the events in the county.
