The Féile Scoildrámaíochta is organised at local, provincial, and national levels. It provides students from every corner of the country with a wonderful opportunity to engage directly with drama through Irish. Pupils thoroughly enjoy taking part, and the experience does wonders for their self-confidence, public speaking, teamwork, and, of course, their spoken Irish.
Naturally, there’s a strong element of friendly competition too! With both plays and musicals being performed and a wide range of age groups taking part, different competitions are organised to suit the various categories.
The Féile Scoildrámaíochta season begins with the local festivals in February and March. In County Clare, the féile has been running for over twenty-five years and now takes place in Glór, Ennis. The winners from the local féile then go on to compete at the provincial level, which is held in both Ennis and Cork on the same weekend.
Those who are successful at provincial level progress to the national féile, which takes place in Mullingar at the end of April.
There is now a central resource available where schools can find information on every aspect of staging drama through Irish, including:
-
Selecting scripts suitable for different age groups
-
Details of workshops on production and stagecraft techniques
-
A comprehensive script library
